Rita (2024)

Rita is made with charcoal and acrylic paint on a streched canvas sizes 100 x 120 centimeters.

Sanskrit for ´truth´or ´order´, Rita is a central concept in Vedic philosophy, used to explain the principle that governs the order of the universe. Rita is responsible for the proper functioning of natural, moral, religious and sacrificial order, and is the founding principal for dharma (duty) and karma (action).

I wanted to paint my version of god. A female god, a god that a matriarchy would create. I don’t believe man is made in god’s image, I believe god is made in man’s image, and I began wondering how god could have looked like if I lived in a world without patriarchy.

I don't want a god that preaches obedience. I would now only accept one that teaches me to think or myself, and that this is it. How you treat the earth and all living beings is on you, you don't get to hide behind religious excuses.

You are not special, and everyone is a unique, precious expression of LIFE and you don't get to think you deserve any of it more than anyone else.
