Kali is the name of a hindu goddess of time, change, power, destruction and death. Sometimes called Kali Mata, meaning the dark mother, she is seen as the divine protector and the one who bestows moksha, or liberation. Also known as Divine Mother, and Mother of the Universe, she destroys evil and protects the innocent.

Kali (2023) is made with charcoal and acrylic paint on stretched canvas, 100 x 100 centimeters.

This canvas was hard to paint, and I’ve spent a couple of years with it before I was able to let go of it. This is the fourth try, four and a half maybe, and even if no one else can see the different layers and the story that has unfolded behind this final surface, I do, and I enjoy that. It’s like the canvas and me share something, that is only between me and it. We have history.
